Hi there and welcome to my world! First of all, thank you for taking the time to read my post! As a newly registered Dietitian, I truly appreciate every bit of support I can get. So how did I end up here?
Truth be told... My passion for health and nutrition came long before I could spell either of those words, so deciding on which career to follow was not a difficult decision to make. As a child, I had the immense privilege of growing up with a brother who inspired me beyond all limits. He was an avid sportsman, showing extreme passion for the sport of bodybuilding. As fate would have it, I followed right in his footsteps and competed in numerous sports during my years of school, such as netball, field hockey and tennis to name just a few. Unfortunately, this amazing man I called my brother, passed away in a tragic car accident in 2016. He will forever be missed and remembered by everyone he supported and helped in this amazing sport. I for one, will do my best to keep his legacy alive through MY passion for health and fitness.
After matriculating, I first went to University having Biokinetics in mind, and started off with with Bsc Human Movement Science, but after my first year of studying this (with dietetics being my second choice at the time) and learning a bit more on Nutrition during this year, I decided that Nutrition was the way to go. Before then, for some reason I believed that Nutrition and Dietetics alone won't be challenging enough, but I soon came to learn that studying Dietetics was exactly what I wanted and needed to do. It was a calling. Originally, Dietetics is a 4 year course, but due to the fact that I did my first year of University studying Biokinetics, I had to make some changes in my subjects so, I took up more subjects, and graduated with my Honorary Colors for Bachelor of Science in Dietetics after just three years of study (in Dietetics specifically, I still did four years, but the first year was Biokinetics). Thereafter, I did my year of Community Service, because it's about giving back (Arnold Schwarzenegger 6 Rules to Success: Rule #6). My Community Service year was an amazing learning experience and I enjoyed every second. Each day I learned something new, but one specific event will stick with me forever. A Toddler came in, severely dehydrated, in extreme malnutrition and very ill, and it turned out that through Nutrition and modern medicine, we helped that beautiful child to pull through and become healthier in less than three weeks, by the end of the hospital visit, that toddler literally ran out those doors!
As a professional Dietitian, I have an extremely strong belief that, through following a nutritionally healthy lifestyle, all illnesses can be cured. I'm not saying that modern medicine won't help at all, but with better nutrition, a cure is always possible. Pursuing a career in Dietetics and Nutrition is a passion you're either born with or not. I am happy to inform you that I'm one of the few fortunate people on this earth, who was born with my passion! I do what I do, because I love every second thereof. I will never regret choosing my career in Dietetics, and I honestly cannot wait for what the future may hold.
I am now a proud Private Practice Owner, a Newly Registered Dietitian, and I want to share this with every one out there, because every single human being deserves a chance at a better and healthier life! I can't wait to someday meet all of you, and most of all, I can't wait to make the difference I was born to make!!!
Always stay happy and healthy. There is no one more beautiful than YOU!
Yours Truly
Allison
