Hi guys! It’s been a long time I know, but I’m back now!

I’m pretty sure you have asked yourself this question before… Why is having a healthy and nutritious breakfast, so important?

That’s what I’m here to tell you today! The big thing behind having a proper breakfast is firstly and mainly because; you need to get your engine started! Your car probably won’t run without any fuel, so why would you expect YOUR engine to run without any fuel? Best way to kick start your day, and have a good one, is by having a healthy breakfast and getting the fuel you need, pumped into your body to get your body going!

When you look deeper into it, here’s what you need to know:

Starting your day with a fibre rich breakfast will have you making a huge contribution to a full and nutritious breakfast, containing necessary vitamins and minerals.

It will leave you with improved concentration and performance throughout your day.

It supplies you with more energy and determination ability throughout physical activities during the day.

It will significantly decrease cholesterol levels, and contributes to healthy weight loss and weight management.

And, best of all, it will break your overnight fasting period, the time during which you don’t consume any food.

Now, which foods contain fibre?

Fibre is only found in foods that come from plants, such as whole wheat products – whole wheat cereals, whole wheat bread, whole wheat pastas and so forth, it also comes from fruits such as apples, bananas, pears, peaches and lemons, and basically any other fruit. You probably won’t eat a bowl of broccoli for breakfast, but vegetables containing high fibre include broccoli, spinach, carrots, beans, peas, lentils and a lot more.

Fibre is an extremely important part of a healthy and balanced diet. It can help prevent heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, weight gain and some cancers, and can also improve digestive health and maintain healthy blood glucose levels.

A very important factor regarding fibre, is knowing that there are two types of fibre:

Soluble fibre which can be digested by your body. It may help to reduce the amount of bad cholesterol in your blood and may increase your good cholesterol levels. If you have diarrhoea, gradually increasing sources of soluble fibre – such as fruit and vegetables, oats and golden linseeds – can help to reduce diarrhoea. Foods that contain soluble fibre, include:

  • Oats, barley and rye

  • Fruit, such as bananas and apples

  • Root vegetables such as carrots and potatoes

  • And golden linseeds

Insoluble fibre can’t be digested. It passes through your gut without being broken down and helps other foods move through your digestive system more easily. Insoluble fibre keeps your bowels healthy and helps prevent digestive problems. If you have constipation, you should increase the amount of insoluble fibre in your diet. Good sources of insoluble fibre include:

  • Whole meal bread

  • Bran

  • Cereals

  • Nuts and seeds (excluding golden linseeds)

  • Eating foods high in fibre will help you feel fuller for longer. This may help if you are trying to lose weight.

Remember to make sure that you drink enough water throughout your day. For an average adult, 6 to 8 glasses of water per day is necessary.

Now do you see why having a proper breakfast is important?

Get your day going by having a proper nutritious breakfast, and be sure to have some good fibres with that!

I hope this article helped you all to better understand why having breakfast is a very important part of your day! Stay happy and stay healthy everyone, and don’t forget to have your breakfast!!!

Yours Truly

A
